Ram made a huge splash in the full-size truck world when the company released their all-new pickups last year. Praised for its rugged durability and refined driving experience, the redesigned Ram pickup cemented itself among the best trucks on the market. Available with a plethora of trim and feature packages, the truck is as adaptable as it is practical. It is in that vein of versatility that drives Ram to further expand its lineup in the 2020 model year.
Ram’s push towards a diversified truck lineup is indicative of the market as a whole. Pickups continue to rank among the hottest selling vehicles in the country. Americans love trucks. But more than that, we love trucks with fully realized potential. Both Ford and Chevrolet, for example, offer their full-size trucks with a wide range of trim options. The choices range from plain to insane, with multiple engine, suspension and aesthetics options to choose from. Ford’s F150 Raptor is a perfect example of such a purpose-built truck that rolls off the factory floor almost unrecognizable from its lesser-equipped brethren.
While Ram hasn’t taken their new trucks to Raptor-esque levels of absurdity, the new options the company will offer are similarly intriguing. Ram’s popular 3.0L V6 EcoDiesel engine finally will finally be available on the new 1500. The economical diesel engine made its debut on the half-ton pickup back in 2014, but hadn’t been available on the post-redesign Ram until now. The third generation engine should put out more power than ever before with a promised 480 lb.-ft of torque, which brings its towing capacity to an industry best 12,560 pounds. If towing isn’t really your thing, they’ve also made the engine available on the latest Ram Rebel, where its “low-end torque and off-road capability” should catch the eye of more than a few off-road enthusiasts.
In addition to its new diesel engine option, the half-ton Ram will roll into 2020 with a plethora of new appearance packages to help it stand out in the increasingly pickup-filled streets. The Ram 1500’s aggressive aesthetics can be intensified with various styling packages, some of which are sure to appeal to one’s dark side. The Big Horn and Laramie models will both be available in the exclusive Night Edition trim, which features a monochromatic color scheme complemented by a blacked-out grill, wheels, badging and exhaust tips among other highlights. The Ram Rebel is set to receive similar treatment with its Black Appearance Group package, which includes a black front spoiler and skid plate, LED headlamps and a theme-matched interior. No matter which model Ram one chooses, the customization options are plentiful enough to satisfy nearly anyone’s preference.
