Toyota has something else in store for the recently redesigned Corolla. The all-new model, which launched earlier this year, is primed to join its sibling vehicles in receiving its own Nightshade Edition.

The 2020 model year brought with it a major redesign for Toyota’s versatile compact. Its refreshed exterior, complete with newly sculpted body and contemporary styling, gave new life to the car. Additionally, the revamped Corolla hatchback, which debuted in 2019, continues to offer a more practical option for buyers seeking a car with more cargo space. Both models launched with a range of available trims, including the most popular LE, SE and XSE trim-levels. While its design was lauded for its uniqueness, Toyota’s announcement last week presaged a forthcoming darkness attaching itself to the Corolla. Though it shouldn’t scare consumers, or their wallets.

Toyota’s Nightshade trim is nearly ubiquitous across its car line. Already available on the Camry, 4Runner, and Highlander among others, the styling package has proven to be quite popular. It’s for good reason, because there are few cars that wouldn’t look good with a black-accented styling package – and the Corolla is no exception.

Each iteration of the all-new Corolla, both the sedan and hatchback, will be available with the menacing styling package. Based on each cars’ midrange SE trim, the Nightshade Edition will take their appearance to the next level with a host of visual modifications. Nearly every bit of trim and flair that was once bright and shiny has received a dark layer of paint. Everything from the grill and rocker panels to the rear view mirrors has been darkened, which provides a stark contrast from the car’s body color. The standard alloys rims are replaced by a set of similarly styled 18 inch alloy rims that are, of course, black as night. Both models will also come with blacked-out badging and rear spoilers to complete the look. If that’s not enough, a black roof, which was previously exclusive to the Camry, is now available as an option for the Corolla hatchback.

The package may not be suited for the timid or faint of heart. But for those brave enough – and with each model’s Nightshade Edition starting at less than a grand over their respective SE trim – why not embrace the dark side?
